Welcome to The Simple Southerner—a place where healthy living is simple, approachable, and rooted in everyday life.
For years, I thought I knew what it meant to be healthy. I trained for HYROX, ran five marathons, and was constantly preparing for my next race. Movement, discipline, and pushing my limits were a huge part of who I was. I loved challenging myself and believed I was taking care of my body—but I didn’t realize the amount of stress my body was carrying beneath the surface.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Thankfully, I was able to learn how to manage my symptoms well and continued living an active life. I adapted, listened to my body, and found a balance that allowed me to keep doing many of the things I loved.
Then, in November 2025, everything changed.
After one unexpected episode, my body responded in a way I never could have imagined, leading to an autoimmune reaction that completely changed the course of my life. The person who once measured strength through miles, races, and endurance suddenly found herself unable to leave the couch for months, unable to eat normally, and searching for answers.
I felt lost.
One of the hardest parts of my journey was not having the answers I desperately needed. After years of seeking help and still feeling like I had more questions than solutions, I decided to start researching for myself. I dove into learning about wellness, nutrition, the products we use every day, and the hidden ingredients that surround us in our homes.
What I discovered changed the way I viewed health.
I began to understand how much our everyday choices can impact our overall well-being and how creating a healthier environment starts with small, intentional changes. I started making simple swaps in my home, paying closer attention to ingredients, and focusing less on pushing my body and more on supporting it.
That journey is what inspired The Simple Southerner.
This space was created to share what I’ve learned while navigating my own health journey and to help others create healthier homes without feeling overwhelmed. I believe wellness doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or perfect. It’s about making informed choices, taking small steps, and creating habits that support a healthier life.
Here you’ll find realistic non-toxic swaps, nourishing recipes, wellness inspiration, and practical ways to simplify healthy living.
